FLAVOUR:
An aromatic variety with low alpha, the hops display a subtle flavour indicative of European hops and they would have been mainly used for lager and ale bittering.

HISTORY:
HERITAGE HOP FIRST GROWN IN NZ 1882 . In the mid-1860's Kortegast's Brewery operated at Gibson Quay on the banks of the Hokitika River, brewing porter, ale – and cordials. Brewery principal WCJ Kortegast was quite an entrepreneur and in the 1880's also established his own hop gardens which in the 100+ years since have quietly survived growing in the wild.

The hop was analysed by HortResearch for Wigram Brewery who reported they were of European origin but with no variety matching their type within the current gene pool data base. As the name Kortegast is of German origin it is quite possible that the hops are a forgotten German or Belgian variety.


GROWTH/YIELD:
Hokitika® hops mature mid season. The yield is moderate and the growth is moderate to vigorous with large cones.
